You can use a metal disc as long as it is not made of aluminum or stainless steel.  It must be made of steel because it has iron properties that will attract magnets.  If your doll has a shallow mouth, the discs should work just fine.  If your reborn doll has a deep, wider opened mouth, you will want to place an opposing magnet inside for the best hold.

One thing to keep in mind when you are buying pacifiers with the magnets already attached, is the fact that if you have a magnet inside your doll's mouth already, the pacifiers you purchase may not be attracted to your magnet.  You may want to consider purchasing a magnet kit instead of a pacifier with the magnet already attached. If you have a neutral metal disc inside, it won't matter because any magnet would be attracted to that metal disc.
